Hi! No, only yard clippings (leaves, grass, small tree branches, etc.) can be disposed of in the Green Yard Waste bins. Old pumpkins can be composted in your own backyard compost piles/bins, or at a public compost drop-off location. https://www.torranceca.gov/our-city/public-works/what-goes-in-waste-bins

Hi Tifaine, While residential composting programs will be rolled out across the State soon, there is currently no City service to drop-off/compost food scraps. There is a community compost location in Long Beach (Atlantic Ave & 59th St) that is free. CompostableLA is a subscription service that will pick up your food scraps for you: https://www.compostablela.com/ There is also LA Compost, which has drop-off locations across Los Angeles, but not currently any near Torrance: https://www.lacompost.org/

Hi Rosa,

Unfortunately, Torrance does not have a facility for these types of bags. In general, you should always place green waste and compost in bins without bags.

Check locally, as these do not exist in many communities. Not suitable for backyard composting.”
Does Torrance have an industrial facility that will compost this type of trash?

Hi Curtis! Torrance has free mulch available to residents at Lago Seco Park, which is made from composting the city’s yard waste. There’s more information on composting at the city’s website: http://www.torranceca.gov/9216.htm

Is the city making compost with that? Is the resulting compost available for us to use in our gardens?
